About Me

Dad // Partner // Human // He/Him // Designer // Life Long Learner // Writer // Podcast Host & Producer // Idea Guy // Seattle Mariners Baseball Fan // Book Reader // Beer & Coffee Drinker // Outdoor Enthusiast // Star Wars Nerd…

My work experience has often involved the need to wear a lot of hats that the title “Senior Visual Communications Designer” doesn’t quite tackle. From Creative Ideation, Art Direction, Brand Design, Copywriting, Ad Design, Production Art, and Coding, to Packaging Design, Podcast Hosting/Producing, Storyboarding,  Editing, Motion Design, and Account Managing, there isn’t a lot that I haven’t had to dip my toe into. Working collaboratively in a small team has relieved a lot of the day-to-day pressure involved with all of that while honing my ability to work to tight deadlines and managing multiple projects.

I’ve been very fortunate to work with really great clients, mostly in the B2B (Business-to-Business) space. I’ve had the honour of collaborating with great people from the following companies:

  • McSweeney’s Jerky & Meat Snacks
  • Elements Calgary Mental Health Centre
  • Calgary TELUS Convention Centre
  • Big Chief Beef Jerky
  • Grimm’s Fine Foods
  • Armour Equipment
  • Rebox – a B2B Brand Distillery
  • Communicatto Digital Marketing

Recently, I’ve begun shifting my focus to building my skills in product and User Experience design. In taking those newborn-giraffe-like steps with new tools, and digging into user-centred design, I’ve reconnected with a lot of the things that drew me to a career in design. I’ve also started writing my first novel and short stories. I read a ton, enjoying just about anything with a good premise. I’ve rediscovered a love for backcountry camping as it scratches my “gear nerd” itch. I was a semi-professional photographer in a past life.

But my most important jobs are chasing after two smart and independent little girls whilst being the best partner I can be. They say kids keep you young. I’m sure the person that said that had kids at a nice young age, not in their late-30s like I did… but I’d never trade the experience of being a dad; the positives FAR outweigh the not-so-great parts. If only my back would agree.

I try to live my life with a few simple philosophies:
1. Stay Curious
2. Be Humble
3. A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats
